Dartmouth Middle School National Junior Honor Society
1.†††††† Student academic records will be reviewed at the end of the second trimester to determine those students who meet the academic standard. For DMS this standard is a final cumulative average of a 93 for all major subjects since entering the Dartmouth Middle School.
2.†††††† Students who are eligible academically (i.e. candidates) will be notified and invited to complete the Candidate Form. Ten community service hours are required. Ms. Gardner will offer a help session for candidates for assistance in properly filling out the candidate form.
3.†††††† All faculty members will be invited to make comments on candidatesí Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship.
4.†††††† The Faculty Council will review the Candidate Forms and faculty input.
5.†††††† Faculty Council will vote to decide which candidates should be invited to be inducted into the chapter. A majority vote is required.
6.†††††† The Chapter Adviser will report the results of the Faculty Councilís deliberations to the Principal.
7.†††††† The Chapter Adviser will notify all non-selected candidates first in person and then notify all selected candidates in writing with details about the induction ceremony.
1.†††††† Dues: Members are asked to pay annual chapter dues of $5. The chapter will provide alternative sources of funding for those students who are incapable of paying due to legitimate circumstances.
2.†††††† Maintaining standards: Once selected, all members are expected to maintain the standards by which they were selected. This includes academics and character.
3.†††††† Meetings: Attendance at monthly meetings is important. Members can miss up to two meetings per year, but must inform the adviser, Ms. Gardner, in advance.
4.†††††† Chapter Service Projects: All chapters are required to sponsor a chapter service project and all members are required to participate.
5.†††††† Individual Service Projects: In addition to the chapter service project noted above, members are to engage in additional service according to their own talents and interests.
